Colvin Automotive, Inc. provides comprehensive automotive services to the Austin and central Texas area and has for over 15 years. Colvin first opened the business in February, 1988 with a two bay, 1600 square ft square shop at 2720B Hancock Drive in Austin, TX. Two years later, it moved across the street to its present location at 2715 Hancock Drive. Expanding over the years, the business now features 10,000 square feet of service area, 7 lifts, a separate 500 square foot onsite machine shop and enough service bay area to get your vehicle in, serviced and back on the road in a timely manner. Colvin services the broadest range of vehicles -- domestic, import and exotic makes and models of cars, trucks, vans, SUVs or RVs. If it rolls, we likely work on it. If it doesn't, we'll get it rolling.
As the Colvin clientele grew, Colvin automated it's front office operation in 1990 installing RO Writer, the widely-used standard for generating, tracking and billing repair orders. Since then Colvin has upgraded its computer systems, networks and application software systems several times as it continues to serve its customers.
Colvin expanded their automotive high performance services in a major way in the summer of 1998 when they purchased the DynoJet 248 dynamometer and constructed a state of the art facility to house its operation. Colvin Automotive is the only shop in Austin, with a dynamometer enclosed in a dedicated, climate-controlled room with attached computer control and observation area. With this capability, Colvin staff can absolutely assess performance under realistic conditions, precision tune and verify post-repair or upgrade operation. Besides its internal use, Colvin also offers the service on a fee rental basis.
An automotive service as traditional as changing tires must evolve. In 1999, Colvin purchased the top-end Accuturn 5402 tire changing system to protect their customers' increasingly expensive wheels, rims & tires. You can't use your father's tire changer to deal with multi-part, high chromed, precision wheels and high tech tires. The 5402 system enabled Colvin to not only provide that protection but increased capabilities to service tires up to 40 inches in diameter, 15 inches in width and up to 21 inch rims.
In August, 2000, Colvin enhanced its luxury car services by acquiring Mike's Jaguar Service, a Jaguar factory-authorized repair center, that had operated in Austin for many years. The acquisition extended Colvin's Jaquar parts inventory, enhanced staff access to Jaguar's headquarters and increased the scope of factory warranty service Colvin could offer customers.
Colvin Automotive provides corporate sponsorship for two race cars and racing groups. One is a Viper owned by David Gray. The other racer is a Porsche owned by Mike Ebbler. Mike's Porsche is interesting in that all its driving functions can be operated by hand controls.
